Hendrik Jan de Vries was a Dutch writer and poet. He was born on January 17, 1896, and died on November 18, 1989. Some of his notable works include "Tegenliggers" (1935), "Onder het Melkwoud" (1946), and "Gedichten 1934-1982" (1983). De Vries was known for his experimentation with language and form, as well as his use of mystical and symbolic imagery in his poetry. He was also involved in the Dutch Resistance during World War II and was awarded the Resistance Memorial Cross for his efforts.
